Here is your chance to contribute towards improving and updating the provisions of the Press Code for online and social media content.
Social media and digital journalism have introduced several new challenges to journalism ethics, from children over 13 engaging online to journalists expressing opinions, sharing, liking and retweeting links, memes and videos which may not pass the Press Code’s prescripts for fair comment, accuracy and balance.
The Press Council invites you to submit your suggestions to update and improve the online and social media elements of the Code of Ethics and Conduct for print and online media in order to make it more relevant to contemporary converged journalism and newsrooms. You can find the Press Code on our website, www.presscouncil.org.za
You are welcome to send your suggestions for consideration by the Press Council to the Executive Director, Latiefa Mobara, by 30 September 2019, at email@example.com.
