Mr Alan Mukoki, former CEO of the Land Bank, has lodged an appeal against the ruling of the Ombudsman’s panel on the two complaints he had brought against the Sunday Times.
The panel’s full decision can be found in the documents section of this site.
The main finding of the panel – consisting of Press Ombudsman Joe Thloloe and Press Appeals Panel members Peter Mann (press representative) and Ronnie Taurog (public representative) - was that the Sunday Times was in breach of clause 1.3 of the South African Press Code that states: “… Where a report is not based on facts or is founded on opinions, allegations, rumour or supposition, it shall be presented in such a manner to indicate this clearly.”
Chairman of the Appeals Panel, Judge Ralph Zulman, is now considering Mr Mukoki’s application.
